Christine Boyle, Director

 

Christine is a community organizer, activist, and communicator. She was raised in the United Church, and did graduate studies on ‘Religious Leadership for Social Change’ in Berkeley, CA. In her other work, Chris leads strategic communications at the Columbia Institute and their Centre for Civic Governance.

Chris regularly talks about feelings, practices yoga, worships food, contemplates purpose, nurtures plants, and preaches about the need to create social, political and economic systems that reflect our desire to care for one another. She actively believes that people are good.

 

 

Trevor Malkinson, Head Cook

Trevor Malkinson grew up in Victoria, BC. He did a double undergraduate degree in philosophy and environmental studies at the University of Victoria, and then did a graduate degree in philosophy at Brock University. He’s currently attending the Vancouver School of Theology, with the intention of going into ministry in the United Church of Canada. As a chef by trade, he has a passionate interest in food and in supporting the development of a post-industrial food culture. He also has a passionate interest in evolutionary spirituality, and how the Christian tradition can live anew within this emerging worldview. He is one of the creators, and a writer, for Beams and Struts, an integral online magazine for ‘hungry brains and thirsty souls’. His areas of writing include philosophy, culture, food, sports, spirituality and the environment. www.beamsandstruts.com.

 

 

Vanessa Richards, Music Leadership

Vanessa Richards – MPhil, is a musician, inter-disciplinary artist and facilitator with a foundation in collaboration. She conducts the Woodwards Community Choir, and is engaged in various community-based arts and urban regeneration as an aspect of civic engagement, transformation, backbone and beauty. Her interests include participatory processes, socially-engaged arts practices, and cross sector partnerships for positive change. Her poetry and critical works are anthologised in the UK, Holland, the United States and Canada.  She was the Regional Peer to Peer Facilitator for the Canada Council Equity Office’s capacity building initiative Stand Firm and Chair of the Working Arts Society (Sistahood Celebration).  June 2012 she started in a new position at the Arts Club Theatre Company as Community Engagement Manager.
